The Spiral Café was packed with local art-goers on Sunday afternoon, sharing coffee, visiting artists, and listening to Peter Bourne play his music for BeConnected’s 5th Annual BeCommunity Art Show. Many pieces of art have already been sold, but there are still many available for sale to choose from! BeCommunity art is hanging all of November, so visit the Spiral Café and give the Café and our BeConnected artists some love!

Big news circulating on the World Wide Web this week, is that Sesame Street has introduced a new character, Julia; and Julia has autism. Sesame Street is aiming to create greater awareness and empathy, and to reduce the stigma of autism with the introduction of the first muppet with autism. October is Community Inclusion Month!

Every year in October we celebrate the gifts that people with developmental disabilities bring to our communities. We used to call October “Community Living Month.” Last year in British Columbia, this was changed to “Community Inclusion Month” in order to highlight the importance of inclusion in schools, workplaces, and communities.
“Community Inclusion Month” not only welcomes all members of community to celebrate and bring awareness to the strengths and achievements of people with developmental disabilities, but it also challenges us to think of community as more than just a place where we live. It is where we all come together to work, learn and play.
The theme of this year’s Community Inclusion Month is: “Claiming Full Citizenship”
