Wishin’ and Hopin’

We received this amazing message and song via Messenger from BeConnected staff members Nate and Danielle – thank you for sharing Wishin’ and Hopin’!
“My wife Danielle Dowling and I are both support workers with BeConnected in Victoria, BC and our residents are understandably having a tough time coping with the recent disruptions to their routines. Specifically, they miss taking part in their day programs where they would regularly socialize with their workers/friends and enjoy activities such as swimming, playing music, and going to the library.
The inspiration for this song came as I was helping a resident to bed one evening. He said “I wish my program would open, I hope they do soon” and when I replied “So you’re wishin’ and hopin’ that your program would be open” He laughed at the rhyme and repeated it back in his own melody because he’s such a musically minded guy! The lyrics of this song are tailor made for him but I hope that all of you will enjoy it.
I assure you that my wife and I are better support workers than singers…Thanks for watching and keep wishin’ and hopin’”

We may be spending more time at home but it doesn’t mean we can’t be our creative selves and make some art. BeConnected is calling all artists for our BeConnected Social Media Art Show! Send us a photo of art you create during this time of self isolation and social distancing, and we will share it on all BeConnected social media platforms. Persons supported, workers, self advocates, family, friends, family of persons supported, children of workers, friends-of-family-of workers-and-persons-supported – you get the picture! Let’s add some COLOUR and LIGHT to all the information circulating about COVID-19 and closures while we do our part in keeping everyone safe in our communities.
